24 Jul:  Some high westerly cloud and Saharan dust in the morning and early afternoon, clearing later on.  Winds fresh westerly.

Ringing Totals

Over 1000 Black Kites headed south over the Rock, with another 500 heading across the bay after 18:00hrs.. In the afternoon many failed to cross due to strong south-westerlies.

A walk around Commonwealth Park produced the following:-

A Little Egret was standing on he Detached mole.

A Robin was present at Europort gardens.Another Hoopoe was seen in the area of Jews' Gate in the morning.

Two Oystercatchers and eight Sand Martins were seen from Europa Point.

23 Mainly clear skies with hazy sunshine due to Saharan dust.  Winds moderate westerly.

At least over 560 Black Kites were seen heading south over the Rock.

A flock of five Little Egrets flew south on the inside of the Detached Mole.

North Front cemetery held three Hoopoes and 37 House Sparrows, and six Ravens were observed over the Rock.

22 Jul:  Clear skies with a light north-westerly becoming moderate south-westerly in the afternoon.

An early morning watch from Europa Point produced the following:-

Two Booted Eagles and a Black Kite were observed over the Rock in the morning.

Four Barbary Partridges and the Audouin's Gull were presen at Camp Bay.  Four Common Sandpipers were observed on the groyne at Eastern beach.

A White Wagtail was seen at Windmill Hill, and a Spotted Flycatcher was present at Commonwealth park.

A Hoopoe was present at North Front Cemetery.

21 Jul:  Overcast skies with high cloud for mopst of the morning, with hazy sun in the afternoon.  Winds light to moderate north-westerly in the morning turning to moderate south-westerly in the Strait.

A morning watch at Europa Point produced 9 Collared Doves, two Audouin's Gulls. 15 Cory's Shearwaters, six Balearic Shearwaters and 18 House Sparrows.

An afternoon watch from Europa Point produced the following:-

Three Mediterranean Gulls were present off the North Mole.

A Short-toed Eagle, a Booted Eagle and 15 Black Kites were seen over the Rock. A Robin was present at Jews' cemetery. An Eleonora's Falcon was seen over Windmill Hill in the afternoon.

A Great Skua was observed from Europa Point.

A juvenile Moorhen was scurrying around vegetation at Trafalgar cemetery.

The adult Audouin's Gull was again seen at Camp bay.  In the evening a Little Owl was heard from the old Casino area, and a Tawny Owl fronm the KGV area.

20 Jul:  Overcast skies with high cloud from the west and a light shower.  Wind light north-westerly becoming moderate south-westerly.

Ringing Totals

Forty-six Black Kites were observed heading south in the morning. A juvenile White Wagtail was observed along Europa walks.

The Audouin's Gull was sitting on the revetment at Camp Bay. Four Swallows were observed in the Arengo's area.

Six Ravens were seen together over the Rock.

19 Jul:  Mainly clear skies with some high cloud.  Winds moderate westerly.

A Hoopoe, two Kestrels and a Goldfinch were present at North Front cemetery.

Little Bay held two Shags.  A short visit to Europa Point produced two Oystercatchers, an adult Gannet, a Cory's Shearwater, a Glossy Ibis and a Shag.

Thirty-six Black Kites were observed just before midday, and an Eleonora's Falcon was seen over the Talus slope.

A Swallow was present by Lewis Battery. A Booted Eagle light morph was seen over Windmill Hill.

The first juvenile Audouin's Gull was seen in the afternoon at Europa Point.

18 Jul:  Plenty of high cloud cover in the morning with Saharan dust, clearing in mid afternoon.  Winds moderate westerly.

A Grey Heron was observed flying west off Europa Point.  Two Black Kites were observed over Windmill Hill in the early afternoon, with 11 more in the evening over Rock Gun.

17 Jul:  Mainly clear skies with some high cloud and light Saharan dust in the atmosphere.  Winds light to moderate westerly.

Four Jackdaws are present at Moorish Castle estate.  There were eight Feral Pigeons, three Collared Doves, two Sardinian Warblers, seven Blackbirds, three Spotted Flycatchers and 17 House Sparrows at Commonwealth park.

16 Jul:  Clear skies with a moderate north-westerly wind in the morning becoming westerly in the afternoon.

After two years with  poor breeding totals, the results this year prove promising, with a comeback to healthy breeding populations.  The overall majority of captures are juvenile birds.

The two Swallows were present at Commonwealth park. A Moorhen was found in the town area, and released at the pond at Commonwealth park.

A Griffon Vulture crossed the Strait and headed low north.

15 Jul:  Overcast skies with high cloud, clearing in the afternoon.  Winds moderate westerly.

A mid morning watch at Europa Point produced two Audouin's Gulls, three Mediterranean Gulls (two adults and a first summer), five Cory's Shearwaters, four Balearic Shearwaters, a Shag, a Zitting Cisticola and a White Wagtail.

14 Jul:  Clear skies with a light northerly becoming fresh south-westerly in the afternoon.

An Afternoon watch at Europa Point produced a Whimbrel, seven Audouin's Gulls, nine Mediterranean Gulls, 57 Cory's Shearwaters, 11 Balearic Shearwaters, a Cormorant, a Cattle Egret, a Kestrel, 15 Black Kites and four House Sparrows.

Forty-two Black Kites were seen mid afternoon over the Rock, with some heading towards the west.

13 Jul:  Clear skies. Fresh north-westerly in the morning becoming west in the afternoon.

An early afternoon watch at Europa Point produced seven Audouin's Gulls, a Mediterranean Gull, five Cory's Shearwaters, a Gannet and two Ravens.

12 Jul: Clear skies with a moderate westerly wind.

The Tawny Owl was heard in the vicinity of the old KGV hospital.

A flock of 14 Glossy Ibises were observed flying west off Western beach.  The Little Owl was present along Europa Advance road, and a Spotted Flycatcher was seen at Commonwealth Park.

11 Jul:  Mainly clear skies but with a lot of high cloud. with a fresh south-westerly wind.

Two Black Kites were seen early in the morning over Windmill Hill.  Four Ravens were observed over O' Hara's Battery.

A Black-headed Gull and an Audouin's Gull were seen flying west at Europa Point in the early afternoon.

09 Jul:  Clear skies with a moderate to light north-westerly in the morning becoming moderate south-westerly in the afternoon.

Four Black Kites were seen heading north around midday.

08 Jul:  Clear skies with a light easterly wind.

The two Jackdaws were observed at Landport. The Audouin's Gull was seen again on the revetment at Camp Bay.

07 Jul:   Clear skies with a moderate easterly wind.

A Tawny Owl was seen in the vicinity of the Calpe estate.

06 Jul: Clear skies with a moderate easterly wind.

Five Ravens were seen heading south towards Jews' Gate.

There was a Grey Heron and a Great Tit in the vicinity of Trafalgar Heights estate.

An Audouin's Gull was seen on the revetment at Camp Bay.

05 Jul: Heavy levanter cloud over the Rock, town and harbour in a strong easterly wind.

There was a Black Kite heading south over Rosia in the early morning, followed by five more at 13:40hrs over the Rock.

An Audouin's Gull was observed off Camp Bay.  A Red-rumped Swallow was seen in the Arengo's area.

The Swallow seen recently drinking at the Commonwealth Park pond, was located nesting close to Main Street.  This is the first time in 55 years that this species has returned to nest on the Rock.

04 Jul:  Heavy levanter cloud over the Rock, town and harbour in a strong easterly wind.

03Jul: Levanter cloud over the Rock, and town in a moderate to fresh easterly wind.

A Nightingale was heard above Jews' Gate in the morning.

02 Jul:  Clear skies at dawn but heavy levanter cloud developing over the Rock. town and harbour in a fresh easterly wind.

Seven Spotted Flycatchers were observed at the Alameda Botanic gardens.  Three Swallows, a White Wagtail and a Serin were seen at Europa Point.

A Common Sandpiper was present at Europa foreshore, and a Swallow was seen in the Arengo's area.

01 Jul:  Clear skies at dawn but some levanter developing mid morning that dissipated by midday.  Winds moderate easterly.

Just before dawn, the Eagle Owl was heard calling from the cliffs above the Talus slope.

A Robin was present at Commonwealth Park.  Five Ravens were seen flying north over the Apes den. A light morph Booted Eagle was seen over the Nature Reserve.
