Bird Sightings June 2026

11 Jun: Levanter cloud over the Rock, town and harbour in the morning, with sunny intervals in the afternoon.  Winds fresh easterly with strong gusts.

 

10 Jun:  Fog at dawn with low levanter cloud over the Rock, town and harbour.  Winds light to moderate easterly.

An early morning watch at Europa Point produced the following:-

09 Jun:  Clear skies with a light variable to moderate south-westerly in the Strait.

Three Common Swifts, 32 Pallid Swifts, 47 Cory's Shearwaters and 80 Balearic Shearwaters were seen from Europa Advance road.

Two Honey Buzzards and a White Wagtail were seen over Rosia bay. Another two Honey Buzzards were seen in the afternoon with a Booted Eagle hunting in the Nature Reserve.

 

08 Jun:  Clear skies with a light variable to moderate westerly in the Strait.

A Spotted Flycatcher was present along the Saluting Battery promenade.

An immature White Wagtail was present around Europa Point. A Red-rumped Swallow was observed around Gibraltar Airport.

 

07 Jun:  Levanter cloud over the Rock in the morning, clearing in the afternoon.  Winds moderate to light south-easterly.

A Tawny Owl was seen in the Mount gardens.  Two Blue Tits, two Blackcaps a Blackbird and a Spotted Flycatcher were observed along Queen's road.

A Red-rumped Swallow and a Booted Eagle were seen around the Arengo's area.

 

06 Jun:  Heavy levanter and fog from the east, overcast all morning, but some sunny intervals, albeit with high cloud after midday when winds turned to south-easterly.

Two Griffon Vultures flew north in the morning. A Crested Lark flew along the frontier fence.  The habitat on the Spanish side of the fence is being cleared for the La Linea fair, and may have disrupted a nesting pair.

North Front cemetery held a Reed Warbler and a Spotted Flycatcher.

A morning visit to the Alameda Botanic Gardens produced the following:-

05 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate to fresh westerly.

There were five White Storks along the east side of the Rock.  A trickle of raptors with two Griffon Vultures, a Honey Buzzard, three Short-toed Eagles and seven Booted Eagles.

Three Mediterranean Gulls flew west past Europa Point.

 

 

04 Jun:  Clear skies with a moderate to fresh south-westerly wind.

A trickle of raptors throughout the day with four Griffon Vultures, 12 Honey Buzzards, a Short-toed Eagle, five Booted Eagle, 11 Black Kites and a Hobby.  Also seen was a Black Stork.

 

 

03 Jun:  Clear skies a moderate south-westerly, but fresh in the Strait.

An early morning watch at Europa Point produced the following:-

02 Jun:  Mainly clear skies with plenty of high cloud.  Winds moderate south-westerly, but fresh in the Strait.

At least three Honey Buzzards flew north over the Rock.

Balearic Shearwaters continue their exodus from the Mediterranean.          S. Villa

 

A morning walk along Green Lane produced the following:-

There were three Tawny Owls seen around the old KGV Hospital area.

 

01 June:  Clear skies with a light easterly wind.

A Cormorant was observed heading west over Europa Point.
